Unpaid builder kills four during shooting spree in Girona
Murders occurred where porter was recently arrested over death of 11 senior citizens
A builder armed with a shotgun killed four people - his former bosses and two bank employees - in the town of Olot, Girona on Wednesday morning. Pere Punti Puntí, 57, gave himself up to police after leaving the bank where two of the killings occurred.
The events, which happened close to the La Caritat residence home where porter Joan Vila was arrested several weeks ago for the suspected killing of 11 senior citizens, began just after 8am. Puntí entered a bar in the La Canya neighborhood on the outskirts of Olot and killed Joan Tubert, owner of Construccions Tubert S. L., and his son Àngel as they were having breakfast.
"He didn't say anything: he entered with a rifle, he shot and went off running," Guzmán Sánchez, husband of the bar owner, told television station TV3.
Puntí then drove to a branch of the Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo in the town and shot and killed two employees - Anna Molas and Rafael Turró, according to sources close to one victim. He also wounded a third worker.
Puntí, who was going through tough financial straits, had recently been told by the construction firm that he would be dismissed after 20 years, say sources close to him. The company owed him several months' salary and also reportedly gave him a severance pay cheque that bounced.
