Guilty verdicts returned in bouncer murder trial

Prosecutors ask for a 15-year sentence in disco death

After two and a half days of deliberation, the jury serving in the Álvaro Ussía murder trial returned guilty verdicts against the three defendants. Ussía, 18, was killed outside the Balcón de Rosales nightclub in Madrid in November 2008.

The principal defendant, Antonio Sánchez Serrano, was found guilty of murder while the two others, David Sancio and David Alonso, were deemed to be accessories. Witnesses in the trial said that club doorman Sánchez Serrano fell onto Ussía's chest with his knee when the victim was already on the floor. Forensic investigators testified that Ussía's heart was crushed by a forceful blow.

The judge will now hear the sentencing arguments of the prosecution and defense, which has announced it will appeal against the verdicts. The prosecutor has requested a 15-year sentence for Sánchez Serrano, but reduced its recommendation for Sancio and Alonso to five years from 13.
