On Sunday, January 13, two-year-old Julen fell down a borehole, made to look for water. The hole was 110 meters deep but very small, meaning rescue teams could not go down directly.

The new tunnel is 60 meters deep and reaches 83 meters below the surface

To go down the tunnel, the firefighters have come up with the idea of a metallic capsule

This capsule weighs 300 kilograms and is lowered and lifted by a crane. It can transport up to three miners or two with equipment

The next step is to excavate a horizontal tunnel that joins the borehole with the vertical tunnel. This takes 24 hours. The diameter of this new tunnel is 1x1.2 meters. The debris from the excavation is placed at the bottom of the vertical tunnel
