Bookmakers to pay out over €1 million to punters who guessed Charlotte Elizabeth Diana
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their new baby girl Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Kensington Palace revealed two days after her birth.
Prince William and Kate Middleton selected the name moments after her arrival on Saturday, but needed to wait for Queen Elizabeth’s approval before making it public, in accordance with royal protocol.
The three names are a tribute to the princess’s grandfather, Prince Charles, to her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, and to her grandmother Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997.

Punters had been betting heavily on the name Charlotte up until her birth, when Alice became the odds-on favorite. Many wagers were also placed on Elizabeth and Diana.
The Telegraph reported that bookmakers would have to pay out over €1 million to those who guessed right, according to betting agency Ladbrokes.
The arrival of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, as she will be known, marks the first time in 25 years that a baby girl has been born into the British monarchy. Her birth was celebrated with gun salutes in Hyde Park and at the Tower of London, following tradition.
The Royal Artillery military band also played Stevie Wonder’s Isn't She Lovely.
The princess was born on Saturday morning at St Mary’s Hospital in London, the same center where the duke and duchess’s eldest child, Prince George, was born two years ago.
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is fourth in line to the British throne after her grandfather Prince Charles, her father Prince William and her brother Prince George.
