Zapatero is "begging" ETA to dissolve, says former Prime Minister Aznar

Former Prime Minister José María Aznar on Thursday criticized José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for continuously "begging" ETA to lay down its weapons and disband.

"Defeating ETA doesn't mean begging the terrorist gang each day to please make some gesture, some statement, issue some document ? just something to bring to the next political meeting to justify all the concessions it has given the organization," Aznar said during the opening of the Popular Party (PP) convention.

The former prime minister accused Zapatero of helping ETA by allowing the radical left Bildu coalition take part in elections.

"If you want to defeat ETA you cannot allow a coalition, which doesn't condemn violence, to impose its totalitarian programs in the Basque Country and Navarre."
