After Seville and Osuna, Girona may become the next Spanish city to serve as a location for HBO’s worldwide hit show Game of Thrones.

The chairman of TV production company Endemol Spain, Jordi Bosch, revealed in a radio interview that there was a “very big possibility that the next season of Game of Thrones will be filmed in the city of Girona.”

HBO had not yet confirmed the news because it “operates with a lot discretion” in this respect, he told private Catalan station RAC1.

The show’s production team has already expressed a desire to return to Spain to film the next series after shooting parts of season five in Seville and Osuna. The Andalusian capital’s Alcázar was used to recreate the kingdom of Dorne, while Córdoba’s Roman bridge also appeared in the show.

If the news is confirmed, Game of Thrones may now exploit the cinematic potential of the Catalan city, whose historic center has previously served as a location for period fantasy thriller Perfume (2006), based on the bestseller by Patrick Süskind. It is not yet known what part of the Seven Kingdoms the city might stand in for.
