Former Colombian vice presidential candidate Clara Rojas, who, along with her ex-running mate Ingrid Betancourt was held in the jungle for six years by the FARC, criticized a Spanish production company Monday for its plans to make a movie based on the life of the child she gave birth to while in captivity.

Rojas said she found out through Spanish media about the movie entitled Operation E - taken from the initial of her son Emmanuel, whose father was a member of the Colombian guerrilla organization.

"My son has rights, like all other children, as well as the right to a private and tranquil life," Rojas told Efe news agency. "And the information that I have is that this movie is going to affect all our personal lives."

The film is set to star Goya award-winning actor Luis Tosar as José Crisanto Gómez, the rural peasant to whom the FARC gave Emmanuel for safekeeping. According to Rojas, Gómez is now in prison after being charged with kidnapping Emmanuel.

New chief

Meanwhile, the FARC announced Monday that it has elected Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri, better known as "Timochenko," to become the insurgency's new leader after Alfonso Cano was killed by the army on November 4.

Timochenko, who joined the FARC in 1982, studied medicine in the Soviet Union during the 1970s. Colombian authorities believe that he is hiding out somewhere across the Venezuelan border.
