Spain asks UN for consent to give frozen cash to Libyan rebels
Gaddafi controlled assets of around two billion euros in the country, including a ranch in Málaga

Spain has asked the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee for permission to unfreeze some 350 million euros in Libyan assets and hand it over to Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC), diplomatic sources said.
The 350-million sum is the cash that the Gaddafi regime had deposited in Spanish banks.
Other assets Libya holds include some 900 million euros in government bonds, properties, including a ranch belonging to Gaddafi in Málaga, and other capital totaling some two billion euros, according to the Economy Ministry. On Friday, the Cabinet is expected to appoint José Riera, Spain's representative to the rebel government, as the new ambassador to Libya.
